| October 15, 2004 Warwick, NY Legacy of an American Impressionist To Be Unveiled at The Eclectic Eye The lyrical landscapes from the estate of the late American impressionist painter, Edgar Otis Miner, will be presented at a special reception at The Eclectic Eye in Historic Warwick, NY, on Friday October 22, 6-9 PM. The collection of several hundred paintings, recently acquired by the distinguished art and antique dealers, George Laurence and John Fish, reflects the subtle beauty of the American countryside through the eyes of a gifted 20th Century artist. Miner was born in Connecticut in 1915 and studied under the Guy Wiggins school. "His oil paintings include exceptional interpretations of landscapes throughout New England and Europe," noted Laurence. He became active in the Old Lyme Art Association, where he served as treasurer during the 1950s until the 1970s, and later moved to West Milford, NJ. "Despite a reputation as a keen observer of life in rural areas, Edgar Otis Miner's works seldom sold. As a result, he never received the acclaim he is now receiving after his death in 2003," added Laurence. His paintings are available in many standard sizes, such as 6 x 8" and 9 x 12" and are quite affordable to many devotées of American Impressionism who would, otherwise, be unable to acquire them. "Oscar Wilde once said, 'It is art and art alone that reveals us to ourselves,'" continued Laurence, "and Miner was able to capture this essence in his paintings." The collection will be on display through Sunday, November 21, 2004 at The Eclectic Eye in the historic village of Warwick, NY. The Eclectic Eye is Hudson Valley's incomparable source for original antiques, art, furniture, fine collectibles, oriental rugs, and porcelains. Proprietor, George Laurence, has more than three decades of collecting and learning about Glidden, making him "the downstate authority on the form," according to the Northest Journal of Antiques and Art. The Eclectic Eye features furniture, art, rugs, and accessories of selected dealers, including Linda Rosen, John Fish, Jenna Field, Curti-Emery (Reflections), Gail Ball, Gail and Joe Mahoney (Turnbridge Crossing), and Jude Hammerle.
