Sat Dec 8 | Mike Jackson & Richard Kimball | 5-6PM
Baby Grand Books, a specialty book emporium in Warwick, New York, will lock its doors to business, from 3-4PM, to present a special live jazz performance featuring pianist Richard Kimball and guitarist Mike Jackson, two of the Hudson Valley’s most respected jazz musicians. Click here for more info!

Kimball is a seasoned pianist with an extensive career as a performer, teacher and composer and has produced two CD’s bearing his name: The Art of Aging and X-Tempore.  Well acquainted with the great American songbook, he has played regularly at the River Cafe in Brooklyn, and at other venues throughout the tri-state area.

Mike Jackson picked up the guitar at age 12 when he received his first guitar as a birthday gift.  He honed his skills on the bandstands of his home town, Washington, D.C., where he played with the top R & B groups of the 60s and 70s.  He graduated to playing jazz and was influenced by the playing of Grant Greene, Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell, guitarists who played jazz with a heavy blues flavor.  In 2000 he produced his own CD, Certified Jazz Guitar, Vol. 1, which includes jazz standards and original compositions.

George Nitti, proprietor of Baby Grand Books, sensed an opportunity when he met Richard and Mike recently and heard them play in separate performances.  “I had a gut feeling that here was an opportunity to present two great musicians together, in a duo format in a quiet, intimate venue,” Nitti says.“  When he approached the two musicians with the idea he discovered they had played together a number of times over the years but never as a duo in a concert setting.  And he found that there was mutual respect and admiration for one another's work and they were delighted to join with Baby Grand Books to present a program for the community.  This free event is by R.S.V.P. only.  Seating is limited.  For information and reservations, contact: Baby Grand Books at 845-986-6165.

John Kelly, an FDNY firefighter, lives in Warwick and is known to many of us as the co-owner of Halligan's Public House. John was recently diagnosed with a blood disorder that has caused him to rely on the generosity of total strangers - blood donors - so that he can receive the transfusions that are an important part of his treatment. If you don't know John personally, you probably know somebody like him (someone's son, husband, father, brother, neighbor, friend) who has had to depend on the very personal generosity of strangers. This holiday season; donate a blessing because somebody needs you!
