Feb 20 | New A Cappella Singing Group Forming
Zephyr Vocal Ensemble will be a 16-voice, semi-professional vocal group performing a varied and eclectic repertoire spanning from early chant and classical music including Dufay, Palestrina, Mozart, Mahler, Whitacre, and Lauridsen, all the way up to jazz, rock, pop, doo-wop, world music, and showtunes. Most of this will be sung a cappella. Concerts will be profound and evocative, entertaining and fun, delivering a superb level of artistry.

The ensemble will perform in concert without a conductor to foster intimacy between the artists and audience. All music will be memorized. Some light dance/gesturing, as suitable to the music. Searching for people who are performers, being at home with an audience, as well as singers. Zephyr will concertize throughout  northern NJ, and Orange and Rockland Counties, NY. Weekly rehearsals will be 2.5-3 hours (with a break) in Vernon.

Zephyr will also bring music “to the people,” being able to perform at community festivals and enable a broad spectrum of people to be able to enjoy its music, unhampered as it will be with no need for a piano, orchestra, or sheet music. This is a different kind of ensemble, with a different kind of agenda and program. We want to be out in the community to share our music.

If you are interested in singing in a group with a great, collaborative atmosphere and are willing to take personal responsibility to learn/memorize your part at home and rehearse with other singers who will do so as well, please email (preferred) Artistic Director Cherwyn Ambuter at zephyrve@warwick.net or call her at 973.862.0668. You’ll be emailed further information on the auditions as well as an application. 1st round of auditions is to take place Feb. 20th. Audition judges are professional choral directors from the region and also from Albany, NY. We look forward to hearing your audition! Don’t be shy – go for it! Voices needed!
