As a psychologist, I have always been interested in transformation. I began to explore my passion for clay at the age of 40 and have been drawn to the similarities between working with clay, working with people and cooking. A pot, like a person or an ingredient, can be shaped and transformed into something lively and functional. My pots are simple, meant for daily use. I love the ritual of making and glazing pots and feel a strong connection to the ancient process of firing. Each step in the process of making a pot represents a point of transformation. I am increasingly committed to eating locally and the connection between pots and food is a constant source of interest and enjoyment. Travel to the west coast for study and soda firing as well as continued exploration of wood firing have been the inspiration and source of my most recent work. |
